ABOUT THE EVENT
Doc Club Pop-Up Screening x People of Ari presents a free screening of Bugsy Malone (1976) — a gangster musical comedy with an all-child cast! Seats are limited so don't forget to to RSVP. What happens when you take the gritty world of Prohibition-era gangsters, turn it into a musical, and cast only children in all the roles? You get Bugsy Malone — a wildly inventive, genre-blending cult classic that has to be seen to be believed!
Directed by Alan Parker in his first feature film, Bugsy Malone draws inspiration from real-life mobsters like Al Capone and Bugs Moran. But instead of gritty violence, the film swaps bullets for whipped cream "splurge guns" and cast adults' roles with children, creating a surreal yet surprisingly effective take on mobster cinema. Among the young cast is a 13-year-old Jodie Foster, just as she was rising to stardom with Taxi Driver the same year.
The film’s charming…
