ABOUT THE EVENT

Roots is a slow descent back into the body as a sensing, remembering landscape.

Rooted in Butoh and somatic movement practices, this workshop invites participants to listen beneath form, technique, and performance—toward sensation, imagination, and the subtle intelligence of the body itself. Emerging from post-war Japan, Butoh is not a fixed dance language but a living practice of inquiry: a way of uncovering an “original dance” that belongs uniquely to each body.

Rather than shaping movement from the outside, we soften effort and allow movement to arise organically, from weight, breath, imagery, and inner perception. The practice is gentle yet deep, stripping away habitual tension to reveal clarity, presence, and authenticity in motion. No prior movement or dance experience is required; all bodies are welcome.
