SOUNDSCAPE AND STRING TEXTURES BY ANNA MARIA OLSSON

Thai-Swedish violinist and composer Anna Maria Olsson is known for her minimal yet elaborate compositions for live multitrack violin. Using Ableton Live and MIDI pedals to loop and layer the sounds of her instrument, Anna creates cinematic soundscapes and lyrical melodies inspired by the natural world.

She will give a special performance at PoA’s forest setting, sharing music from her two solo albums Crossing Lines and Circles, as well as unreleased material and live improvisations.

ABOUT THE ARTIST:

Anna grew up in Sweden and moved to the UK to study at The Royal Birmingham Conservatoire. During her studies, she gained experience playing different styles of music and improvising, which eventually inspired her to write her own original music. The debut album, Crossing Lines (2016), draws on a variety of genres in order to showcase the violin as a highly versatile instrument. Circles (2019), on the other hand, is more conceptual and themed around the circulation of time and the cyclic elements of our natural environment.

Anna has been a featured artist on BBC Introducing, BBC Radio 3, Flatpack Film Festival and more recently, Bangkok Design Week. She is currently based in Chiang Mai, where she is active as a performer, composer, educator and artistic collaborator across various disciplines.
